General Situation:
Brunei Darussalam is currently in the second phase of the Northeast Monsoon period, and relatively, month of February is categorized as the second driest month of the year due to the lowest amount of rainfall recordedin comparison to the other months.
Since the beginning of the month until last night (17thFebruary), the total amount of rainfall recorded at the Meteorological Observation Station at the Brunei International Airport is 204.3 mm, which is 20% more than the climate normal (1991-2020) for February (i.e. 162.9 mm).

Brunei Darussalam is currently in the Northeast Monsoon, where generally, unsettled weather conditions are expected during this period with occasional heavy showers or thundershowers. Starting this year until 12th January, our country has been experiencing rainfall daily and our Meteorological Observation Station at Brunei International Airport recorded total amount of rainfall of 277.1 mm. According to long term records, average monthly rainfall total for January is 308 mm.
The increase of rain activities and rainfall amount in Brunei Darussalam are due to the influence from the combination of low pressure system located in the northern part of Borneo and the occurrence of a strong North-Easterly wind surge over our region.
