1. General Weather Situation:
Brunei Darussalam is currently in the Southwest Monsoon which will typically persist until September.

During Southwest Monsoon, atmospheric conditions over our country tend to be quite stable with minimal thunderstorms occurrences compared to during the inter-monsoon period. The wind condition generally will be blowing from the Southwest direction during this period.

As of 11.00 am local time today, Monday (02nd September 2024), Tropical Storm Yagi was observed at coordinates 15.2°N 122.6°E, near Northern Philippines, approximately 1400 km away from Brunei Darussalam (Figure 1). Tropical Storm Yagi is forecasted to move Northwestwards and away from our country.

1. Keadaan Cuaca Secara Am:
Negara Brunei Darussalam pada masa ini berada di dalam Monsun Barat Daya, yang pada lazimnya akan berterusan sehingga bulan September.

Semasa Monsun Barat Daya, keadaan atmosfera di Negara kita pada kebiasaannya adalah agak stabil dengan kejadian ribut petir berkurangan berbanding semasa monsun peralihan. Keadaan angin secara amnya akan bertiup dari arah Barat Daya dalam tempoh ini.

Pada pukul 11 pagi waktu tempatan hari ini, Isnin (02 September 2024), Ribut Tropika Yagi dikesan di koordinat 15.2°N 122.6°E, di kawasan berdekatan Utara Filipina, sekitar 1400 km jauh dari Negara Brunei Darussalam (Rajah 1). Ribut Tropika Yagi diramalkan bergerak ke arah Barat Laut dan menjauhi Negara kita.

Today, 30 August 2024, Brunei Darussalam experienced strong gusty winds accompanied with rain. The highest wind speed recorded today was at 1.09 pm local time at the Meteorological Observation Station, Brunei International Airport which reached 72 km/h. The rainfall amount recorded from 1 to 29 August 2024 is 288.5 mm, which is slightly above the normal amount.

The occurrence of squally showers is still expected for the next few days until Tuesday (3 September 2024), especially along the coastal and sea areas of the country and potentially spread to the inland areas. Wind speeds may reach up to 60-75 km/h during or near gusty showers.

Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally slight to moderate, between 0.8-1.3 meters.
