1. General Weather Situation:
Brunei Darussalam is currently in the Southwest Monsoon which will typically persist until September.
During Southwest Monsoon, atmospheric conditions over our country tend to be quite stable with minimal thunderstorms occurrences compared to during the inter-monsoon period. The wind condition generally will be blowing from the Southwest direction during this period.
As of 11.00 am local time today, Monday (02nd September 2024), Tropical Storm Yagi was observed at coordinates 15.2°N 122.6°E, near Northern Philippines, approximately 1400 km away from Brunei Darussalam (Figure 1). Tropical Storm Yagi is forecasted to move Northwestwards and away from our country.
2. Brunei Darussalam Weather Forecast Condition:
Tropical Storm Yagi is expected to indirectly influence our weather in Brunei Darussalam. Slightly windy condition is expected in the next few days, with showers or thundershowers to occur especially at sea.
Wind speed of up to 50 km/h is expected during or near heavy thundershowers.
Meanwhile over the Brunei waters, sea condition is generally at slight to moderate state, with wave height of 0.7 m to 1.2 m.
3. Our Advice:
Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. Sea condition is dangerous to small boat operations during gusty showers conditions.
Public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.
