CLARIFICATION WITH REGARD TO THE VIRAL IMAGE TYPHOON OVER SOUTH CHINA SEA 12 JULY 2024

The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) would like to clarify regarding the viral image on social media dated 12th July 2024, which says a typhoon system over the South China Sea is expected to hit on 13th July 2024.



The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) would like to inform that there is no typhoon system observed at South China Sea currently. Based on the latest information, a low pressure area is observed over Philippines as of 8:00 am local time today.

The low pressure area is forecasted to move towards the South China Sea and will move Northwestwards away from our country. Therefore, weather situation for our country in the next few days is expected to be partly cloudy and occasionally windy with isolated showers or thundershowers potentially occurring in the afternoon and at night. Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally at slight to moderate, between 0.8-1.5 meters until 15th July 2024.
