30 May 2024

Brunei Darussalam Monsoon Situation

Brunei Darussalam is currently towards the end of inter-monsoon period and will be transitioning to Southwest Monsoon by June 2024. Typically, Southwest Monsoon will persist until September.

During Southwest Monsoon, atmospheric conditions over our country tend to be quite stable with minimal thunderstorms occurrences compared to the inter-monsoon period. The wind condition generally will be blowing from the Southwest direction during this period.

Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation
Weather conditions are still forecasted to be active for the next few days due to the development of low pressure system near our country that makes the atmosphere unstable, thereby increasing the formation of rain clouds.

Active weather conditions are expected to start tonight, Thursday (30th May 2024) until Monday (3rd June 2024), with occasional heavy and thundery showers affecting many areas of the country. Meanwhile, wind gusts may increase up to 45 km/h during heavy or thundery showers.

Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally at slight, between 0.3 and 0.7 meters.

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. There is risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide.
