1. General Weather Situation
Brunei Darussalam is currently towards the end of Southwest Monsoon period, where southwesterly wind is still dominant. However, active weather conditions are still forecasted for the next few days due to the presence of low-pressure area near our country that caused moist atmospheric conditions and enhancement of the rain clouds development.
Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Observation Station, at the Brunei International Airport has recorded a total rainfall amount of 60.0 mm on Thursday, 21 September 2023. Since 1st September until yesterday, a total rainfall amount of 537.6 mm was recorded and this value has reached more than above normal amount of rainfall, by which the normal amount of rainfall for September (1991-2020) is 235.1 mm.
2. Brunei Darussalam Weather Forecast
Active weather conditions are still expected today (22 September 2023) until Monday (25 September 2023) with occasional heavy thundershowers affecting many areas of the country. Wind speed may reach up to 45 km/h during or near heavy thundershowers.
Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally at slight, below 1.0 meters.
3. Our Advice
Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. There is a high risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide. Risk of landslide and fallen trees are also possible during heavy showers and gusty condition.
