General Situation:
Brunei Darussalam is currently in the first phase of the Northeast Monsoon, where generally unsettled weather conditions with showers or thunderstorms, heavy at times, are expected especially during the night until early morning.
Starting last Wednesday, our country has been experiencing active weather conditions influenced by Northeasterly wind surge and the formation of low pressure system over our region. This condition resulted in unstable and moist atmospheric condition which is favorable for the development of rain clouds. The influence of the low pressure system has also brought about windy conditions which can be gusty at times especially during the crossing of showers over our country.
Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Observation Station, at the Brunei International Airport had recorded a total rainfall amount of 50.3 mm on Thursday, yesterday. Meanwhile the maximum wind speed recorded was approximately 32 km/h at 1.45 pm.
Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation:
Based on the latest numerical weather prediction model, weather condition over Brunei Darussalam is still forecasted to be active until Tuesday (27th December 2022). Showers, heavy and thundery at times, are expected with wind speed that may reach up to 50 km/h during or near heavy showers.
Meanwhile, over Brunei waters, sea condition is still at moderate to rough state, with wave height of 1.0 meter to 3.0 meter.
Our Advice:
Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather conditions. Risk of falling trees and landslide are possible during heavy showers and gusty conditions. There are high risks of flooding and flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during heavy rain and also during high tide. Rough sea conditions are dangerous to all small crafts, sea recreational activities and sports.
Public, including road users and also fishermen, are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.
