1. General Situation:

Negara Brunei Darussalam is still in the inter-monsoon period, where local wind effects play an important role in governing our daily weather.

As of 8.00 am local time today (31stOctober 2022), SevereTropical Storm NALGAE was observed at coordinates 16.1°N 116.8°E, at the South China Sea, approximately 1400 km away from Brunei Darussalam (Figure 1). Severe Tropical Storm NALGAE is forecasted to move north-westwards away from our country.

2. Negara Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation:

Severe Tropical Storm NALGAE indirectly influence our country’s weather and is expected to cause active weather conditions in the next few days especially tonight (31st October 2022) until 2nd November 2022. Showers, can be heavy and gusty at times, are still expected with wind speed that may reach 60 km/h during or near heavy showers.

Meanwhile, over Brunei waters, sea state is at rough state, between 2.0 m to 3.0 m until the end of Stage One of the Marine Warning - Strong Wind and Rough Sea, which is on the 3rd November 2022. Then, sea state is forecasted to be at moderate state, at 1.2 m to 1.8 m until the end of the week.

3. Our Advice:

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather and rough sea condition. There is risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the riverbanks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide. Risk of landslide and falling trees are also possible during heavy showers and gusty condition. Sea conditions are dangerous to all small crafts, sea recreational activities and sports.

Public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.
