1. General Situation:
Brunei Darussalam is currently in the inter-monsoon period, where local wind effects play an important role in governing our daily weather.
As of 5.00 pm local time today (18th October 2022), Typhoon NESAT was observed at coordinates 18.0°N 112.7°E, at the South China Sea, approximately 1500 km away from Brunei Darussalam (Figure 1). Typhoon NESAT is forecasted to move westwards away from our country.

2. Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation:
Typhoon NESAT will indirectly influence our countryÂ’s weather and is expected to cause active weather conditions in the next few days until end of this week, 23rd October. Occasional showers or thundershowers are still expected with wind speed that may reach 45 km/h during or near heavy showers.
Meanwhile, over Brunei waters, sea state is at slight to moderate state, between 0.8 m to 1.8 m.

3. Our Advice:
Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. There is risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide. Risk of landslide and falling trees are also possible during heavy showers and gusty condition.
Public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.
