1. General Situation:
Brunei Darussalam is currently towards the end of Southwest Monsoon period, where southwesterly wind surge is still dominant with stable atmospheric condition.
As of 5.00 am local time today (24th September 2022), Tropical Storm Noru was observed at coordinates 16.5°N 128.4°E, at the East of the Philippines Sea, approximately 2000 km away from Brunei Darussalam (Figure 1).
Tropical Storm Noru is forecasted to move westwards to South China Sea and expected to be upgraded to Typhoon in the next few days.
2. Brunei Weather Situation:
Tropical Storm Noru will indirectly affect our country’s weather and cause windy and active weather conditions in the next few days, especially on the night of 25th September until 28th September. Squally showers, heavy at times, are expected to affect many areas of the country. Wind speed may reach up to 50 km/h on land and up to 60 km/h at sea during or near squally showers.
Meanwhile, over Brunei waters, sea state is generally slight, at between 0.4 meter to 1.0 meter. However, wave height may reach rough state, up to 3.0 meter near squally showers.
3. Our Advice:
Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted windy and active weather conditions. There are risks of falling trees during windy condition, and flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during heavy rain and also during high tide.
Public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.
