15 Dec 2021

General Weather Situation:

Negara Brunei Darussalam is currently in the Northeast Monsoon Season. Currently our country is experiencing unsettled weather conditions with occasional heavy showers or thundershowers expected especially during the evening to early morning.

As of 8.50 am local time today (15 December 2021), Typhoon ‘Rai’ has been observed over the Western Pacific Ocean (8.7°N 132.3°E), at approximately 2,047 km away from Brunei Darussalam. Typhoon ‘Rai’ is expected to continue moving northwest-wards, towards South China Sea (see Figure 1).

At the same time, a low pressure system has been observed over the Southern part of South China Sea.

Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation For The Next Few Days:

Typhoon ‘Rai’ is expected to influence indirectly our weather situation starting from the 16th until 20th December 2021, causing active weather conditions with occasional gusty and heavy showers especially at sea and the coastal areas. Wind gusts are expected to increase of up to 50 km/h with sea state reaching to Rough condition of up to 2.5 meters.

However, the low pressure system over the Southern part of South China Sea is expected not to affect our country’s weather condition.

Our Advice:

Members of the public are advised to take note of the risk of flash floods especially at low lying and flood prone areas during heavy showers or thundershowers as well as the risk of falling trees during gusty condition. Sea conditions would also be dangerous to all small crafts, and sea recreational activities and sports (such as swimming, jet skiing and scuba diving) during this period.
