Brunei Darussalam is now in the first month of Southwest Monsoon which normally would be expected to have stable atmospheric conditions with minimal thundershowers occurrences. Southwest Monsoon typically last up until September. During the peak of the monsoon period which is around August, the country usually experiences hazy conditions due to the generally dry weather across the Southeast Asian region.

Monitoring of Tropical Storm

A low pressure system which developed into a Tropical Storm now known as NURI was observed today as of 2.00 pm local time. Tropical Storm NURI was observed approximately at 19.6°N 115.0°E, South-Southeast of Hong Kong, approximately at a distance of 1600 km away from Brunei Darussalam and expected to move North-Northwestwards. Tropical Storm NURI will not affect the weather situation over our country.

Brunei Weather Situation

Generally, weather will be partly cloudy in the next few days apart from some localized thundershowers in few places in the country. Meanwhile, sea state of Brunei waters is expected to reach moderate state of up to 1.2 meters throughout the week.

During heavy showers or thundershowers, it is important for the general public to take note of the risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas.

In light of this, members of the general public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take precaution and any necessary actions to ensure safety.
