1. General Situation:
Brunei Darussalam is currently in the Northeast Monsoon season which will normally last until March. The first two months of Northeast Monsoon (December and January), also known as the rainy season, normally have the highest amount of rainfall as compared to the other months. During
this period, unsettled weather conditions with occasional heavy showers or thundershowers are expected especially during the night and early morning. Whereas during the second half of Northeast Monsoon (February and March), the atmospheric conditions tend to be more stable with lesser rainfall.

On 2nd December 2019, at 8.45 am local time, Typhoon 'KAMMURI' was observed at coordinates 12.9 deg N 126.6 deg E, east of the Philippines, approximately 1530 km away from Brunei Darussalam and is expected to move westwards. The Typhoon 'KAMMURI' track forecast is indicated as in Figure 1 below.

2. Brunei Weather Situation:
Our country's weather will be indirectly influenced by the tail-end effect of Typhoon 'KAMMURI' during this week. Therefore, occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms, sometimes with strong winds, are likely to occur especially at sea and coastal areas. Strong surges from the Northeasterly wind may result in the increase in of wave height over Brunei waters to rough state at about 2.6 meters.

3. Our Advice:
During the rainy season, it is important for the general public to note that the risk of flooding or flash floods at low-lying and flood prone areas, and the risk of landslides will be high especially when heavy rainfall occurs for more than 2 hours. The risk of severe flooding may occur during the event
of very heavy rain coinciding with high tide.

In light of this, members of the general public road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take precaution and any necessary actions to ensure safety and to prevent any undesirable incidents.
