Tuesday, 15th October 2019 – The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD), Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, conducted the Seventh National Weather Briefing after the previous one on Southwest Monsoon Season in June 2019. A total of 127 participants from the government and private agencies, as well as members of the public attended the briefing, which took place at the Information Department Auditorium, Old Airport, Berakas.

The National Weather Briefing is one of the department's and the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications' initiative to invoke engagement with different user groups such as those from Safety and First Responders, Economy and Industry groups, Constructions, Insurance Companies, Small Medium Enterprise and as well as from the Mass Media.

The ultimate goal of the National Weather Briefing is to increase the understanding and awareness of various user groups and the public towards the current weather conditions affecting our nation, and to facilitate end-users to be more weather-ready and have a better understanding of Brunei
Darussalam's climate. The main focus of the National Weather Briefing was on Brunei Darussalam's Weather, Climate and Seasonal Outlook for the Inter-monsoon season (October-November).

Over this period, the country normally experiences variable light winds during the morning and convective activities during the afternoon, resulting in active development of thunderstorm clouds. During this time, the weather is typically hot in the daytime, while occurrences of thunderstorms are
likely at the inland areas during the evening, propagating out to the coastal and sea areas during late night to early morning. Based on climatological records, the frequency of thunderstorms is high during the Inter-monsoon period.

In this case, we would like to advice members of the general public to always be alert on the weather condition by following the weather updates issued by our department. Alertness on current weather may assist in the early preparation to ensure safety of lives and properties. During active weather,
road users are advised to take necessary actions and to always be alert while driving and to avoid as much as possible flood prone areas especially when weather warnings are issued. Mariners are also advised to take into account weather information, warnings and advisories when planning to engage
in activities at sea.

Today's National Weather Briefing was presented by Dayang Harnina binti Morani, Meteorological Officer, a meteorologist from the BDMD. Apart from that, another briefing on 'Cloud Seeding' was also shared by Dayang Kelly Ng Swee Moi, Meteorological Officer. Other activities include promotion and selling of BDMD's coffee table book titled Nubivagant with Wondrous Scenes of The Abode of Peace, the promotion of Brunei WX Mobile Application, BDMD social media and colour coded severe weather warning.
