The onset of Southwest Monsoon is expected during this final week of June, where the general wind flow across Brunei Darussalam will be blowing from the southwest. Atmospheric conditions tend to be quite stable with minimal thundershowers occurrences as compared to the inter-monsoon period (during the past 3 months). Southwest Monsoon typically last up until September. During the peak of the monsoon period (around August), the country usually experiences hazy conditions due to the generally dry weather across the Southeast Asian region.

Southwest Monsoon also coincides with the season of active development of cyclonic systems, such as tropical storms and typhoons, over the Northwest Pacific and South China Sea. When such system develop, the country tends to experience unsettled weather conditions with occasional gusty thunderstorms depending on the location of the system in relation to Brunei.

Meanwhile, El-Nino is present at the Pacific Ocean since early this year. This synoptic weather influence may contribute to the slight increase in air temperature, occasionally exceeding 34℃ for some days. Most international climate centers predicted that El-Nino conditions are likely to persist, with 66% chance, until around early September 2019.
